Don't Look Up (2021)
An uncomfortable satire So this is a quick review about Netflix's latest blockbuster, Don't Look Up. This could be described in one single question/premise, "How could we portray the modern digital world in the most ironic, exaggerated, and self-awareness ?". The film follows the path of Dr. Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his Ph.D. Candidate Kate Debiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) trying to alert the US (the whole planet earth to their eyes) about the existence of a planet-killer comet that will hit the earth in less than 7 months, showing in the process how little the world can care about facts over profit. This is the reason why the outcome is quite distant from the one you'd expect from a Hollywood movie about saving the earth from extinction, as far as Adam McKay takes every chance he gets to mock modern society and how the government faces a worldwide crisis.
